Tylvia Edwards Addoh - Technical Requirements Manager

Meet Tylvia Edwards Addoh, a Technical Requirements Manager for the United States Navy. 

Tylvia is celebrating 10 years of federal service and began her career as a Systems Engineer for the United States Navy. She attributes her success to her alma mater, Jackson State University, and several internships she completed as an undergraduate student.

Tylvia credits JSU with properly preparing her with a sturdy foundation. She highly praises the JSU Physics Department for allowing her to try different research activities and internships.  Through these internships, she discovered an asteroid, grew carbon nanotubes, and worked for Lawrence Berkeley National Labs in California. 

Tylvia holds a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from Tuskegee University and a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Jackson State University. She is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

What is your personal or professional mantra?

Nothing is out of my reach.

Why is diversity in STEM important to you?

Scientific innovation is brought forth through the ingenuity of scientists to meet the needs of their communities. Scientists must be diverse in order to meet the needs of diverse communities.  

What is your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment is learning to be versatile and pivot to solve evolving challenges.

What advice would you give to youth who are interested in your career field?

Use the fact that you look different to your advantage. You are already different, embrace it. In a world full of daisies, be a rose.
